Penang CM Chow Kon Yeow has said DAP will not react to any call asking new-appointed chairman Lim Guan Eng to step down from his post, considering his ongoing undersea tunnel corruption trial. He said the party will wait for the verdict, however, if there is any change in the situation, DAP will then “consider” it. This comes after Johor DAP leader Dr Boo Cheng asked Lim to step down as his trial can send wrong signal on the party’s values.

In a statement, Chow Kon Yeow said, “Until now, the position remains the same. Until there is a decision from the court, the party will not pursue the matter.” Yesterday, Dr Boo Cheng Hau said, “Any leader bogged by corruption charges or scandals should take the initiative to resign from public office to avoid sending a wrong signal on the party’s values to the public and affecting the party’s standing in GE15.”
Boo urged Guan Eng to step down from the chairman’s position out of “his love for the party.”
He even asked Lim Kit Siang, who recently announced his retirement from politics, to advise his son to step down from his position.
