Health DG: Malaysia Records Increasing Trend In Daily Covid Cases

Health DG Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah today said the country is seeing a rising trend in daily Covid-19 cases for the third epidemiological week from January 16 to January 22. He said that there is also an increase of 2.4% in the active number of cases, while the number of new cases rose by 7.9%. Meanwhile, Malaysia on Monday recorded a total of 4,066 new cases.

In a statement, Dr Noor said, “The number of death cases showed a consistent drop of 19% with 102 deaths in ME 3/2022 compared with 126 in ME 2/2022. This drop was recorded beginning ME 52/2021.”

He further stated that the average infectivity rate or R-naught increased by 2%, while cases requiring respiratory assistance dropped by 23.5%.

A total of 88 new clusters have been reported in ME 3/2022. Of the 88 clusters, 62 involved educational institutions, 18 workplaces, and 4 involved high-risk groups.
