KL Turns 50. Mayor says “We Will Continue To Grow”

Kuala Lumpur today celebrates the golden jubilee of becoming the first settlement in Malaysia to be granted city status. City Mayor Mahadi Che Ngah said he is confident that the city will continue to grow. He said that DBKL has to focus on three main aspects – efforts to strengthen governance, traffic management, and flood prevention. He said DBKL will have to work harder to become the country’s economic driver.

Mahadi was quoted as saying, “Public expectations are getting higher and higher. Therefore, DBKL must work harder to increase its efficiency and create a dynamic urban environment, not only in terms of its attractiveness and liveability but more importantly to become the country’s economic driver.”

He further stated that many efforts are being made to improve the city, including first and last-mile connectivity. Traffic management has improved with the installation of CCTV cameras.

“Efforts are also being taken to make Kuala Lumpur as an investor-friendly city in order to create more job opportunities and reduce the unemployment rate,” he added.

DBKL is also focusing on urban planning like low carbon emission, congestion-free, pedestrian-friendly and having adequate facilities.
