MACC Chief Confirms Bersatu’s Accounts Frozen Over Money-Laundering Probe

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s chief commissioner Azam Baki today confirmed that several of Bersatu’s accounts have been frozen to facilitate investigations under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.

Azam further revealed that witnesses would also be called in to assist the investigations. Confirming the news, Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu said that the party will fully cooperate with the MACC investigation.

In a statement, Ahmad said, “The MACC officers had visited the party’s headquarters and done their due diligence. The freezing was done in the course of investigations. The party has given full cooperation to MACC on this matter and hopes that the rule of law will prevail.”
