In a recent development, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has launched an investigation into Aman Palestin Berhad (Aman Palestin) concerning alleged irregularities within the non-governmental organization’s (NGO) fundraising activities aimed at supporting the Palestinian people. MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki has affirmed the agency’s authority to initiate investigations based on information reported by the media, even without a formal complaint.

The MACC has the prerogative to commence an investigation based on information published by the media. In the case of Aman Palestin, we have already opened a probe,” Commissioner Azam Baki stated, emphasizing that when a matter pertains to public interest and is supported by credible information, they will investigate, regardless of the absence of a formal complaint.

Aman Palestin has expressed its disappointment and has demanded an explanation from the Perlis Mufti’s Department and the Perlis State Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JAIPs), which accused the NGO of misconduct.

Sources within the MACC have disclosed that, based on information gathered from various sources, Aman Palestin is the sole entity implicated in the alleged misappropriation of funds. While no official complaint has been filed yet, the MACC has initiated preliminary investigations into Aman Palestin. If misappropriation of funds is confirmed, the MACC has indicated that appropriate action will be taken in the near future.

Previously, on October 11, the ProMedia Tajdid Facebook page shared a letter from the Perlis Mufti Department dated August 24, instructing JAIPs not to permit the collection of funds by Aman Palestin in places of worship and relevant religious premises within the state.

The investigation into Aman Palestin’s fundraising activities underscores the importance of transparency and accountability in charitable organizations and their use of funds dedicated to humanitarian causes. The MACC’s proactive approach in responding to public concerns demonstrates its commitment to upholding integrity and preventing corruption in such critical matters.
