Moral Science Teacher Set Free From Drug Trafficking Charges

Kasturi Narayanasamy a 45-year-old geography and moral science teacher who was arrested with two parcels filled with drugs from Pos Laju center almost 3 years ago was declared not guilty by the high court in Shah Alam today. Kasturi was ordered to be set free after the Judicial Commissioner found out that the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case against her during the hearing.

Kasturi was represented by Sivahnanthan Ragava, while Nabilah Ahmad prosecuted the case.

The secondary school teacher was arrested by the customs officers at 8:20 PM on 9 April 2019 at the Pos Laju Centre in Kepong, Selangor. The officers found 7,457 methylenedioxy-methamphetamine (MDMA) pills weighing around 1336.4 gms in the two parcels on her.

Kasturi opted for trial after she was charged with trafficking under section 39B of the dangerous drugs act that carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

She has been in jail since then, as no bail can be offered under section 39B.
