Unity Prevails: Pakatan-BN Alliance Highlights Popular Vote Win Amid Selangor Polls, Fahmi Fadzil Says

Amidst the aftermath of the state elections, Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil has emphasized the resilience of the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional (PH-BN) alliance against the challenge posed by Perikatan Nasional (PN). While acknowledging the green wave of religious conservatism that energized PN, Fahmi underscored that the unity within the PH-BN alliance remained unshaken, exemplified by its popular vote victory and the retention of all candidate deposits – a contrast to PN’s losses.

In an interview, Fahmi noted that despite malapportionment in the state seats, the PH-BN alliance secured nearly 50% of the total votes, reflecting its popularity among voters. The alliance garnered 3,399,472 votes (49.58% of the popular vote) across the six state elections, slightly edging out PN with 3,382,455 votes (49.33%).

Fahmi highlighted the successful outcomes in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Penang, affirming that the unity approach showcased its efficacy on the ground. He further asserted that the federal government coalition, inclusive of Gabungan Parti Sarawak and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, currently governs nine state administrations and commands a significant portion of state assembly seats.

Examining factors influencing voter turnout, Fahmi attributed potential voter fatigue to the relatively short interval between the recent elections and the 15th general election (GE15). Looking ahead, he emphasized the necessity for the unity government to assess its candidates, strategies, manifesto, policies, and campaigning techniques to enhance its performance in the upcoming 16th general election.

“In the forthcoming weeks, we will meticulously analyze the data to comprehend these dynamics,” Fahmi affirmed. Noting shifting voter engagement throughout the campaign period, he observed increased interest as polling day approached.

While PN secured dominance in Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu, its victories in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Penang underscore the PH-BN alliance’s resolute defense. Fahmi’s reflections underscore the alliance’s commitment to fostering unity and refining strategies, as they seek to strengthen their position in Malaysia’s evolving political landscape.”
