Unvaccinated Individuals At Highest Risk Of Suffering Major Infections: Health DG

Health DG Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that individuals who have not received their Covid-19 vaccination dose yet are at the highest risk now. He said unvaccinated individuals are more likely to suffer category four or five infections, which are major infections, and also at higher risk of succumbing to the disease. He said this was quite evident from the Health Ministry’s data on fatalities per population of 100,000 between January 26 to February 22 and category four or five cases.

Noor Hisham Abdullah on deaths among unvaccineted

In a statement, Health DG Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said, “This can be seen on MoH charts and in almost all age groups.” According to the chart, more severe Covid-19 cases and deaths were more prevalent among unvaccinated individuals between anuary 26 to February 22.

He further stated that those who have also received booster doses are enjoying the highest level of protection from the virus.

“It is clear that cases of serious Covid-19 infections and deaths were lower among booster dose recipients compared to the unvaccinated group or those who have completed their vaccination but have yet to get the booster shot,” he added.


Noor Hisham Abdullah on hopital bed utilasation

Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that the hospital bed utilisation rate have exceeded by 50 per cent of its capacity in four states, with Kelantan at 78 per cent, Johor at 69 per cent, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur at 62 per cent and Melaka at 54 per cent.


Latest update on Malaysia’s daily Covid cases

Malaysia on Tuesday recorded a total of of 27,179 Covid-19 infections. A slight increase compared to the previous day’s 25,099 cases. According to the Health Ministry’s official website CovidNow, the country has reported a total of 3,273,958 cases since the pandemic started.
