5G Charges Are Expected To Be Cheaper Than 4G: Zafrul

Finance Minister Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz has said that the charges of 5G services are expected to be much lower than the current 4G. According to him, Nasional Berhad (DNB) would charge less than 20 sen per Gigabit for 5G to telcos. In addition, DNB will implement a 5G network through a single wholesale network (SWN) for this purpose.

Speaking in the parliament, Zafrul said that the government is aware of the issues and challenges of SWN telecommunications in other countries and has taken steps to ensure that the same mistakes do not happen in Malaysia.

According to him, through this model, each telecommunication company is expected to pay DNB between RM3.5 billion to RM4 billion in the next 10 years or about an average of RM350 to RM400 million a year.

“This is much lower than the RM1 billion capital expenditure for 4G invested by telecommunication companies every year,” Zafrul said in the Dewan Rakyat today.
