Muhyiddin’s Lawyers Assert Legal Privilege as MACC Attempt to Seize Documents

In a recent development, Muhyiddin Yassin’s legal representatives have firmly stated that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) cannot simply seize documents from their offices. The lawyers from the Rosli Dahlan Saravana Partnership, acting on behalf of Perikatan Nasional chairman Muhyiddin Yassin, responded to a MACC raid by asserting that a client’s documents are legally privileged and, therefore, cannot be confiscated under Section 46 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009. This move comes as the lawyers aim to protect the sanctity of their law office and ensure that their clients’ rights to legal representation are upheld.

The raid, which involved over ten MACC officers, was reportedly part of an ongoing investigation. Another law firm, Chetan Jethwani & Co, also representing Muhyiddin, was targeted by MACC. Lead counsel Rosli Dahlan, known for his involvement in high-profile cases, is currently handling a defamation suit initiated by Muhyiddin against Anwar Ibrahim. Additionally, he has been associated with cases related to 1MDB and has represented Bersatu, the party led by Muhyiddin, in matters concerning funds from 1MDB, leading to the freezing and later seizure of the party’s bank accounts by MACC under the anti-money laundering act.
