Afghanistan Blast: 100 Killed As Uyghur Man Blows Himself

At least 100 people were killed and wounded after a massive blast rocked a packed Shiite mosque in Afghanistan’s Kunduz city. Islamic State claimed the responsibility for the attack, saying that an Uyghur man—a Chinese Muslim, was carried out the suicide attack. According to reports, most of the worshipers were killed during the attack. The attack has posed a serious threat and challenge to the Taliban, which came into power two months back.

The blast went off during the Friday prayer when hundreds of worshipers were gathered at a mosque in Kunduz city. The photos and videos that went viral on social media soon after the attack, showing that the blast blew windows and walls of the mosque with hundreds of dead bodies were lying down on the ground. Blood stains covered the flood and stairs of the mosque.

Hours after the attack, the Islamic State took responsibility for the attack and they had hired an Uyghur suicide to target civilians.

The attack comes days after the Taliban claimed that ISIS-K, the Islamic state’s Afghanistan’s wing based in Khorasan Province, is not capable to create a threat to its country.

Uyghurs, the Chinese Muslim community, have been facing a safety threat since the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan. They are worried that they will be handed over to the Chinese authoritarian government by the Taliban.
