A new variant of Covid-19 named—‘Deltacron’ was detected in Cyprus, infecting 25 people so far. The new variant is the combination of Delta and Omicron strains, according to the scientists. In an interview with a news channel, professor Kostrikis revealed that the new variant of Covid-19 is a combination of Delta and Omicron and that’s why scientists named it Deltacron.

The professor further revealed that the cases of the new variant were sent to the GISAID, an international database that tracks changes in the virus, on January 7.

Recently, France had detected the new Covid-19 variant, namely IHU, which has 46 mutations. Scientists have considered France’s variant is considerably more contagious than Omicron that had found last year in November in South Africa.
