Amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine crisis, major US drink giants including PepsiCo and Coca-Cola temporarily suspended their business in Russia. Fast-food chains like McDonald’s, Starbucks have also announced a temporary suspension of their business in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In the announcement, Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson said, “We condemn the horrific attacks on Ukraine by Russia and our hearts go out to all those affected.”

Amid the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, in a letter to the PepsiCo associates, CEO Ramon Laguarta said, “Given the horrific events occurring in Ukraine, we are announcing the suspension of the sale of Pepsi-Cola, and our global beverage brands in Russia, including 7Up and Mirinda. We will also be suspending capital investments and all advertising and promotional activities in Russia.” However, the company will offer daily essentials including milk and other dairy products, baby formula, and baby food.
In a press conference, Coca-Cola announced suspension of its business in Russia. It said, “Our hearts are with the people who are enduring unconscionable effects from these tragic events in Ukraine.“
Meanwhile, McDonald’s president and CEO Chris Kempczinski said, “Our values mean we cannot ignore the needless human suffering unfolding in Ukraine.” However, the burger giant said it will close the operation of its 850 stores but will continue to pay 62,000 employees in Russia, who have poured their heart and soul into the brand.
Earlier on March 4, Starbucks announced that it is donating profits from its 130 stores in Russia to humanitarian relief efforts in Ukraine.
In the last two weeks, major multinational companies, media houses, and several large-scale businesses have announced the suspension of their business in Russia.
