Clarify Your Remarks On Cabotage Policy: Speaker Tells Wee

Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong has ordered to explain his cabotage policy statement which misled Parliament on  September 30. In a letter dated October 11, Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun asked Wee to present supporting documents as his statement contradicted written answers by Communications and Multimedia Minister Annuar Musa.

This comes after Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng referred the transport minister to the Rights and Privileges Committee for misleading the Parliament with his remarks. Lim has filed a motion under Article 36 (12) of the Standing Order for misleading the house.

Earlier on September 30, Wee had denied revoking the cabotage exemption policy which led the Apricot Subsea Cable System Project to bypass Malaysia. Later on October 8 Anuar in a written reply, stated that the transport minister’s decision to revoke the policy caused the investors bypassing Malaysia.

What is Apricot Subsea Cable System Policy?

The policy by Facebook and Google intends to lay subsea cables which will link the US West Coast to Singapore and Indonesia, It would have enabled the users to have a seamless connection to South-east Aisa and the US with very low interlude.
