Taiwan Building Fire: 46 Killed, Over 50 Injured

A fire in a 13-storey residential and commercial building in the southern Taiwanese city of Kaohsiung killed 46 people and left dozens injured. According to reports, the fire broke out in a 40-year-old building in the wee hours of the morning. The Kaohsiung’s fire department has said that more than 50 people have been referred to the hospital. The building was used for both residential and commercial purposes.

According to reports, the incident took place around 3:00 AM on the ground floor soon after the fire reached the top floor and destroyed the entire building. The fire was put out around 7:00 AM with the help of more than 150 firefighters.

Authorities say that it was a bit difficult for people as fire suddenly caught the entire building while they were sleeping.

The local media claims that more than 100 people were there in the building—mostly were senior citizens.

Authorities are investigating the incident. The reason behind the fire in the building is yet to be known.
