Government To Increase Walk-In Vaccine Centers To Speed Up Vaccination For Kids: Khairy

The Ministry of Health is planning to increase the number of Walk-In Vaccine Centers (PPV) or in person. Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said it was in line with efforts to intensify vaccination among children under the Covid National Children’s Immunization Program (PICKids). “We will further facilitate the vaccination process, especially in Sarawak where the PICKids program is chaired by the Deputy Minister of Health,” KJ said on Wednesday.

“I would suggest that PPV Walk-Ins be opened in areas that already have no appointments or that have already been completed,” Khairy Jamaluddin said in parliament.

He said this in response to an additional question from Oscar Ling Chai Yew (PH-Sibu) who asked for follow-up action on the high increase in Covid-19 cases among children, including in his area.

Answering a question in Dewan Rakyat, Khairy said the MOH had implemented various measures in facing the challenge of the Omicron wave at this time.

According to the government data, a total of 904,368 individuals or 25.5 per cent of the country’s children aged five to 11 years in Malaysia have received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine through the National Children’s COVID-19 Immunization Program (PICKids) as of yesterday.

Based on data via the COVIDNOW website, more than 62 per cent of the adult population in the country have received a booster dose of Covid and a total of 22,950,422 or 97.5 per cent have completed their vaccination while 23,230,349 or 98.7 per cent have received at least one dose of vaccine.
