The health minister Khairy Jamaluddin has warned after the first case of Cholera was detected in Selangor. The health minister has urged people to take precautionary measures and maintain hygiene against the Cholera caused by Vibrio Cholerae bacteria. Earlier the health department of the Selangor had issued an alert to all the statewide hospitals.

“The Selangor Health Department has detected a case of cholera in the Petaling district, Selangor. The public is advised to only drink treated/boiled water, take care of personal hygiene, do not eat raw/uncooked food properly,” tweeted Khiry Jamaluddin.

Selangor government also advised all the hospitals to increase control and preventive measures properly and effectively in order to take control the disease.
According to WHO, Cholera is an acute diarrhoeal infection caused by ingestion of food or water contaminated with the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. Cholera remains a global threat to public health and an indicator of inequity and lack of social development. Researchers have estimated that every year, there are roughly 1.3 to 4.0 million cases, and 21 000 to 143 000 deaths worldwide due to cholera.
