Pandora Papers: Speaker Says Matter Should Be Investigated

Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun has said that Pandora Papers is a serious concern and should be investigated. However, speaking on the PKR Chairman Anwar Ibrahim’s request to debate on leaked papers which exposed that many Malaysian leaders have their offshore assets, Dewan Rakyat Speaker has said that this is not an urgent matter. Yesterday, Anwar had urged Parliament to conduct a debate on the leaked Pandora Papers.

Speaker Azhar Harun said that Pandora Papers should be discussed as it is a matter of public interest.

Speaker, however, did not give any specific date to put the matter before the parliament.

As the matter cannot be discussed on an urgent basis, he said that it should be debated on different platforms such as the parliamentary select committee.

Anwar— the first lawmaker to raise the matter —-said that we cannot sit silent if the millions of ringgit are hidden at the tax haven.

Yesterday, in his latter the Portdickson MP had named deputy finance minister Yamani Hafez Musa, former finance minister Daim Zainuddin, Bagan Datuk MP Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Selayang MP William Leong, and finance minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz, whose names were appeared in the leaked list.
