Kuala Lumpur: Saarani Mohamad was picked as UMNO’s Mentari Besar (MB) candidate, according to sources. The decision was made during the Perak UMNO meeting last night, wherein all 25 assemblymen along with all Umno Supreme Council members from Perak attended the meeting.
Earlier, three names were mentioned to replace Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu as the new Menteri Besar of Perak.
Perak UMNO Liaison Committee chairman and Kota Tampan State Assemblyman Datuk Saarani Mohamad and Rungkup Assemblyman Datuk Shahrul Zaman Yahya among those who were eligible to fill the vacant seat based on their experience, according to sources.
However, the party has not revealed Perak MB’s name in the public domain.
The move comes as PPBM deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu lost the confidence vote in the state assembly, receiving only 10 votes in favour of him, while 48 members voted against him.
