Anwar Can’t Win Without My Support: Dr M

Kuala Lumpur: Opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan (PH) will not get support in the next general elections from people if they exclude Dr Mahathir Mohamad, former Prime Minister claimed in an interview. Dr M, who was the Prime Minister during the ruling PH coalition from May 2018 to February 2020, said that PKR president Anwar Ibrahim cannot win without his cooperation.

Dr M’s statement comes days after Anwar Ibrahim expressed his intention to work with the former Prime Minister, who had launched his new party named Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) in August 2020, after resigning from Prime Minister’s post in February.

Speaking to China Press, the 95-year-old leader said that his support would play an important role in forming the new government. “If Anwar excludes me, he will lose,” he said.

Taking a jibe at PKR President Anwar, Dr M said that if he has enough numbers to topple Muhyiddin Yassin’s government and form his new government, which he had claimed earlier, he must prove it.

“When he said he has enough support, it was made after my exclusion. If he has it, show it, but he never did,” he said while referring to Anwar.
