Indonesia Sulawesi Island Earthquake: Death Toll Rises To 32, Over 600 Injured

Jakarta: The death toll rose to 32 after a deadly earthquake hit Indonesia’s Sulawesi island on Friday morning. Many hospitals and residents were destroyed.

The actual fatalities and damage caused by the incident are yet to be cleared by authorities, but it has revealed that more than 600 people have been injured and several people were forced to leave their houses.

Head of disaster mitigation Ali Rahman said that at least 24 people have been killed in the Mamuju City during the 6.2 magnitude earthquake.

According to authorities, hundreds of rescuers have been deployed to the scene in a search operation. It is believed that many people are still under the rubble of several collapsed buildings and thus death toll can be raised.

The injured people have been taken to the nearby hospitals.

It is reported that more than 300 buildings were levelled and 1,500 people have been sent to shelter houses.
