China has mocked US democracy after Donald Trump’s violent supporters took over the Capitol Hill and smashed the entire building in order to reject Joe Biden’s election victory on Wednesday.
Chinese government’s mouthpiece Global Times tweeted multiple pictures of Capitol Hill, in which rioters freely roamed near the Senate Chamber and vandalised the building.

Double standard? A comparison of US police responses to #Trump supporters on #CapitolHill on Wednesday and #BlackLivesMatter protesters near the White House last year.pic.twitter.com/W8YQyeooKU
Comparing to 2019 Hong Kong violent clash with Chinese security officers, Global Times tagged Nancy Pelsoi, who is currently serving as speaker of US House of Representative, and said that China is waiting if Pelosi will call the Capitol riots as ‘a beautiful sight to behold’. The same phrase she had used for Hong Kong protests in 2019.
In another tweet, Chinese mouthpiece took a jibe at American people and wrote; “China hopes that Americans can enjoy peace, stability and security as soon as possible”.

Capitol Hill riots are also trending on China’s most popular microblogging Weibo. Chinese people are comparing the clash between Hong Kong pro-democrat supporters and Chinese security officers.
One of the users on Weibo wrote; “What happened in the Hong Kong Legislative Council last year is being repeated in the US Capitol”.
